Don't Quit, at least not yet...

Today while listening to the Afford Anything podcast on Youtube, which is a great resource for personal finance and self development, I heard the interviewee Scott Young (author of Ultralearning) tell of a nifty trick he used to get himself to continue focus on the tasks he was learning at times when he wanted to procrastinate and "take a break". He mentioned that the only times he wanted to take a break were when things were not going his way and he wasn't getting the recall of the skill as perfectly as he wanted, so he told himself that once he is able to get a repetition correctly, then he would allow for a break of some sort. What he found was that he rarely wanted to take breaks when things were going well, it was really a method of stalling discomfort.

I thought of how useful this idea is, especially in cold approach. Unless a set goes well, there are no breaks to be taken, yet once you've got momentum going it's likely rare that you'll want to take any breaks. Try this little trick and see how it works.
